The Euro Skim Tour 2023 Ends in France with Victories for Lucas Fink, Pipa Pinto, Ale Montañés and Juanlu González

In an exhilarating weekend of competition, the world of skimboarding left an indelible mark on the final stop of the Euro Skim Tour 2023 at the picturesque French setting of La Tranche sur Mer. After delivering outstanding performances in Portugal and establishing themselves as the ones to beat, international athletes faced spectacular conditions, including incredibly long waves, to conclude the season on a high note.

From Friday, October 13th, skimboarders battled high gusts of wind that fortunately didn’t significantly hinder the pros’ ability to compete at the highest level. Those who adeptly adapted to the challenging conditions progressed to the Saturday rounds.

On Saturday, conditions improved, allowing participants to showcase their best skimboarding. In a thrilling series of semifinals, the reigning UST champion Lucas Fink, Européen Open 2022 runner-up Mathieu Leguen, alongside Spain’s Juanlu González and Heytor Torres, secured spots in the Men’s Open final. In the Women’s Open category, Pipa Pinto, coming off a win in Spain, Kika Freire, Eva Ureña, and local skimboarder Annabelle Bianchi also advanced, vying for the French title. The Junior category witnessed Ale Montañés, Nico Morales, Hyppolite Brandao, and Benjamin Ledoux forming the top 4 in Sub 18.

The first final contested was the Men’s Open, with a 15-minute round allowing the top 4 competitors to optimize the liner waves provided by La Tranche sur Mer. In a thrilling finale, Lucas Fink, with one of his best waves in the 14th minute, snatched the French title from Juanlu González, thereby becoming the Euro Skim Tour champion. Juanlu González claimed the title of the best European skimboarder of the 2023 season.

In the Women’s Open, Pipa Pinto and Kika Freire defined what a close final is, with Pipa narrowly securing the French champion title by just half a point over Kika. Spain’s Eva Ureña took the third spot, while Annabelle Bianchi secured the fourth position. The Euro Skim Tour reached a milestone in the evolution of the women’s skimboarding category, achieving maximum participation in this season, with Pipa Pinto leading the 2023 rankings.

Lastly, but certainly not least, the future of European skimboarding filled the French shores as the Sub 18 category showcased immense talent, culminating in a final where the Sub 18 Euro Skim Tour Champion, Ale Montañés, brought the French title home. Nico Morales stood on the second step of the podium, Hyppolite Brandao earned the bronze medal, and Benjamin Ledoux rounded off the quartet of finalists.

With this final stop in La Tranche sur Mer, Euro Skim Tour 2023 has come to a close, leaving behind a season filled with excitement, skill, and determination.
