Trafalgar Skim Contest 2025: Three Days of Waves, Wind and Family in Faro de Trafalgar (Cádiz)

Barbate once again became the European epicenter of skimboarding with the celebration of the Trafalgar Skim Contest 2025 the 5 – 6 – 7th of September 2025. Over the course of two intense days, more than 60 riders from countries as diverse as Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, France, the Netherlands and the Philippines gathered on the beach to prove that this sport is more alive than ever.

Friday: A Promising Start
The competition kicked off early Friday morning, following check-in and the welcome session for participants. The sea delivered frontside waves and light wind in the morning, allowing heats in all categories of the European stage to take place. With the rising tide, the pause turned into a convivial moment with sandwiches from La Posada.

By mid-afternoon, the Levante wind picked up strongly, transforming the sea into a spectacle of liners. Despite the wind, the crowd remained steadfast on the sand, cheering on every competitor until the close of the day at 7 p.m. First day’s balance: great waves, high-level riding, and an unbeatable atmosphere.

Saturday: European Finals and the Spanish Championship
Saturday started off full of energy. From the very first heats, under-18 riders opened the Spanish Championship while the Levante wind kept waves fast and technical. The European finals followed, with thrilling moments: the under-14 talent shone in a duel between two Spaniards and two Portuguese, the women’s final featured three Spaniards and one Portuguese, and the masters category showed clear Portuguese dominance.

But the highlight came in the afternoon with the much-anticipated European men’s open final. Mexican rider Yahir Valencia claimed victory with powerful maneuvers, followed by Brazilian André de Alpoim, and locals Alejandro Montañés and Juanlu González, who had the Cádiz crowd roaring.

After the Spanish Championship heats, another key moment of the weekend unfolded: the community party at Chiringuito Faro Beach. Music, conversations, and smiles among riders and spectators reminded everyone that this event is, above all, a great gathering of friends united by the waves.

Sunday: Awards and Farewell
Sunday was reserved for the official trophy ceremony at La Posada, attended by local authorities and the mayor of Larache as a special guest within the Strait Festival. Alongside the podium celebrations, there was also a raffle of gear — including a Spiceskate Surfskate and accessories from international brands — and a balance board demo with Onirik Boards, which added a fun touch to wrap up the event.

One Big Family on the Waves
The Trafalgar Skim Contest 2025 once again proved that skimboarding is much more than a sport: it is camaraderie, passion, and community. Despite the Levante wind, the crowd threw their full support behind the riders, and sportsmanship reigned supreme. If there was one takeaway from the weekend, it’s that the Trafalgar Skim Contest is not just a competition — it’s a celebration of skimboarding and the great family that surrounds it.

The organization expressed its gratitude to all national sponsors (La Posada, Dune Skimboards, Stance Traction, Glassy, Dreisog, La Bruma, Tiza Natural, La Cabra Audiovisual, Hippiebeat, Global Surf School, Frusurf, Onirik Boards, Fase Wind, Dogflut Skimboards, Hacienda Sajorami, Chiringuito Faro Beach, and Chiringuito Pez Melón) and international sponsors (Bullwax, Zap Skimboards, SpiceSkate, Wap Surfskate, YouChoose, Blike Clothes, Portugal Natural, and Lufi Skimboard School).

With massive participation, quality waves, and an unbeatable atmosphere, the Trafalgar Skim Contest 2025 closes by securing Barbate’s place on the international skimboarding map and looking ahead to the next edition.
